Memorizing the first few is helpful: 1³=1, 2³=8, 3³=27, 4³=64, 5³=125. Seeing "125" should instantly trigger "5" in your mind.
Think of a cube. If its volume is 27 cubic inches, the length of one side is the cube root of 27 (which is 3 inches). Cube roots are essential for 3D geometry.
Don't be afraid of negative signs. Unlike square roots, you CAN take the cube root of a negative number. The answer will simply be negative.
∛27 is NOT 9 (27 ÷ 3). It is 3 (3 × 3 × 3). Cube root is about multiplication, not division.
√64 is 8. ∛64 is 4. Always check the little number (index) on the radical sign. No number means square root; a '3' means cube root.
On a standard calculator, typing "3" then "√" usually calculates 3 × √x, not the cube root. Look for a specific ∛x button or use the x^(1/3) function.
