Ovulation Calculator
Calculate your ovulation and fertile window.
Cycle Information
Timing is Everything (Literally)
You can't get pregnant just any day of the month. There's a tiny window—about 6 days. Sperm can survive for 5 days, but the egg only lasts 12-24 hours. If they don't meet, you're waiting until next month.
💡 Expert Tip from Sarah Jenkins, RD
Don't wait for the ovulation day itself. By the time you see a positive ovulation test, you might have missed the best window. The 2-3 days BEFORE ovulation are actually your highest chance of conception. Start early!
The "Fertile Window" Explained
Think of it like a bus schedule. The egg is the bus. It stops for 24 hours max.
- Sperm: Can hang out at the bus stop for up to 5 days waiting.
- Egg: Arrives, waits 12-24 hours, then leaves.
- Goal: Have sperm waiting at the stop BEFORE the bus arrives.
That's why having sex 2 days before ovulation works better than on the day of ovulation.
⚠️ Common Mistake: Relying Only on Apps
Calculators (like this one) are estimates based on averages. But your body isn't a robot. Stress, travel, or a cold can delay ovulation. Use this calculator as a guide, but listen to your body (cervical mucus changes, temperature) for the real signal.
Signs You're Actually Ovulating
Your body usually gives you a heads up:
- "Egg White" Mucus: If it's clear and stretchy, you're super fertile. Go time.
- Temperature Drop: Basal body temp dips slightly before rising.
- Mild Cramps: Some women feel a pinch on one side (Mittelschmerz).
- Increased Libido: Nature's way of saying "do it now."
Boy or Girl? (The Shettles Method)
Take this with a grain of salt, but the theory goes:
- For a Boy: Sex closer to ovulation (Y sperm are faster but die sooner).
- For a Girl: Sex 2-4 days before ovulation (X sperm are slower but tougher).
Scientific accuracy? Debatable. Fun to try? Sure.
When to See a Doctor
If you're under 35 and have been trying for 12 months with no luck, see a specialist. Over 35? Wait only 6 months. Don't waste years "just seeing what happens."

Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is this ovulation calculator?
It assumes a regular cycle. If your cycle varies by more than a few days each month, the calculation might be off. Tracking basal body temperature or using ovulation test strips is more accurate for irregular cycles.
Can I get pregnant outside my fertile window?
It's very unlikely. The egg only lives for 12-24 hours after ovulation. Once it's gone, you can't conceive until the next cycle. However, sperm can live for 5 days, so having sex *before* ovulation is key.
What if my cycle is irregular?
If your cycle length changes significantly (e.g., 25 days one month, 35 the next), this calculator's prediction will be an average. Look for physical signs like egg-white cervical mucus to pinpoint your fertile days.
